Research Scientist – Music

About the role

We are looking for an outstanding Research Scientist to join our team, focusing on advancing the state-of-the-art in music understanding and recommendation systems. You will play a crucial role in exploring new research directions, developing innovative algorithms, and contributing to the scientific community. Your work will directly impact how millions of users discover and interact with music.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct independent research and develop novel machine learning and signal processing algorithms for understanding and organizing music.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of research in music understanding by identifying impactful research problems and proposing innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to bring research prototypes to production and drive real-world impact.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in relevant research areas and publish your work in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Mentor junior researchers and interns, fostering a culture of technical excellence and scientific rigor.

Who you are

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning, signal processing, or audio analysis research.
  • Proven track record of publishing high-quality research in top-tier conferences and journals (e.g., ISMIR, ICASSP, NeurIPS, ICML).
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C++, and experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: deep learning for audio, music information retrieval (MIR), speech processing, recommender systems, natural language processing, or multimodal learning.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex research ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing and distributed systems is a plus.
