Senior Engineering Manager – Risk

Mercury is building banking for startups. We’re hiring a Senior Engineering Manager, Risk, to lead the team that builds and maintains the critical systems that keep our products secure, ensuring that their customers’ money and data are safe.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, fostering their growth and development.
  • Drive the technical strategy and roadmap for risk management systems, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and mitigate risks across the platform.
  • Design, develop, and deploy robust, scalable, and secure systems to detect and prevent fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for software development, testing, and deployment, ensuring high-quality and reliable systems.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, promoting a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support critical production systems.

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an engineering management role.
  • Strong technical background in building and maintaining scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Proven experience in risk management, fraud detection, or financial crime prevention, preferably within the fintech industry.
  • Solid understanding of various risk domains, including credit risk, fraud risk, and compliance.
  • Experience with real-time data processing, machine learning, and statistical modeling for risk assessment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity, and benefits. The salary range for this position is C$299,000 – C$374,000 per year. Compensation packages are tailored to each individual’s unique role, experience, and impact, and the range for this role may differ based on a candidate’s location, qualifications, and cost of labor. We are happy to share more about compensation for your role during the interview process.

We use a location-based compensation structure and have two compensation bands for US and Canadian employees. For employees based in a high-cost-of-labor market, such as San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle, the range for this position is C$299,000 – C$374,000.
