Job Summary:

The Director, Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is a highly critical and visible role, supporting the Enterprise Risk Management Team. The Director, BCP is responsible for leading, enhancing, and maturing the organization’s global Business Continuity Program. The Director, BCP will work closely with Business and Functional Leadership at all levels across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business continuity planning, disaster recovery, risk management, and regulatory compliance. They must be able to lead and influence across departments and have a strong understanding of how to implement a globally-consistent program across disparate business units.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a global BCP strategy that aligns with the organization’s overall risk management framework and strategic objectives. Provide expert guidance and leadership in all aspects of business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Program Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive BCP plans, policies, and procedures across all business units and geographies. Ensure plans are regularly reviewed, updated, and tested to meet evolving business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Assessment & Analysis: Conduct thorough Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and risk assessments to identify critical business functions, processes, and dependencies. Develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential disruptions.
  • Incident Response & Recovery: Lead and coordinate incident response efforts during disruptive events, working closely with various stakeholders to minimize impact, facilitate timely recovery, and restore business operations.
  • Testing & Validation: Design, coordinate, and execute regular BCP tests, drills, and exercises to validate the effectiveness of plans and identify areas for improvement. Document test results and develop remediation plans.
  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver BCP training programs and awareness campaigns for employees at all levels to foster a culture of preparedness and resilience.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, business unit heads, IT, legal, compliance, and external auditors. Collaborate effectively to ensure BCP initiatives are integrated across the organization.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to business continuity and disaster recovery (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST, BCI Good Practice Guidelines). Ensure the BCP program meets all compliance requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of the BCP program through post-incident reviews, lessons learned, and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing BCP team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment (if applicable based on team structure).

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Risk Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or equivalent certification (e.g., MBCI, DRCE, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in business continuity planning, disaster recovery, or enterprise risk management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience in a global organization or financial services industry is a strong plus.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record of successfully developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive BCP programs in a complex, global environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of BCP frameworks, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST, BCI).
  • Strong understanding of IT disaster recovery principles and practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in BCP software and tools.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required.
  • The position is Remote, based in the USA.
