This role reports to the Revenue Accounting Lead within the Finance Group and can be based in one of our hubs (Sydney, Melbourne, Austin, San Francisco, New York) or remote eligible.
As the Revenue Accounting Manager, you will be a key member of the Finance Group, responsible for leading the revenue accounting function and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with ASC 606/IFRS 15. You will play a critical role in managing various revenue streams, implementing robust controls, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires a strong understanding of complex revenue recognition principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
What you’ll do
- Lead the revenue accounting function across various revenue streams (e.g., subscriptions, marketplace, advertising).
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP (specifically ASC 606) and IFRS 15.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to revenue, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Perform and review complex revenue calculations, including standalone selling prices (SSP), deferred revenue, and contract assets/liabilities.
- Prepare and review financial statement disclosures related to revenue.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Product, Legal, IT) to understand new product offerings, contract terms, and business initiatives.
- Assess the accounting implications of new product launches, promotions, and changes in business models.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls over revenue recognition processes to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to revenue accounting processes, systems, and automation.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of revenue accountants, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Support external audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations related to revenue.
- Assist with ad-hoc projects, technical accounting research, and analyses as required.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP (specifically ASC 606) and IFRS 15.
- Experience with subscription-based revenue models and software/SaaS industry is highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with large ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with global operations and multiple currencies is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop a high-performing team.
