VP – Customer Engineering (Hardware/Datacenter)

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Vice President of Customer Engineering to lead our efforts in the hardware and datacenter domain. This pivotal role involves overseeing all technical aspects of customer engagement, from pre-sales solution architecture to post-deployment support and success. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with deep technical expertise in datacenter infrastructure, a proven track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams, and a passion for driving customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Lead, mentor, and expand a world-class team of customer engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and customer advocacy.
  • Develop and implement strategies for technical customer engagement, ensuring seamless integration and successful adoption of our cutting-edge hardware and datacenter solutions.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between our customers and internal product/engineering teams, translating customer needs and feedback into actionable product development insights.
  • Oversee the technical pre-sales process, including solution architecture, proof-of-concept development, and technical presentations to C-level executives and technical stakeholders.
  • Drive post-sales customer success initiatives, including deployment, optimization, and ongoing technical support, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, product management, engineering, and marketing to align customer engineering efforts with overall business objectives.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic customer relationships, understanding their evolving technical requirements and positioning our solutions effectively.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies in the hardware and datacenter space to inform strategic decisions.

What You’ll Bring (Prerequisites):

  • Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in customer-facing technical roles, with at least 8 years in a leadership position (Director/VP level) managing technical engineering teams in the hardware or datacenter industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep architectural understanding and hands-on experience with datacenter infrastructure, including servers (especially ARM-based architectures), storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to build, scale, and inspire high-performing engineering teams. Strong mentorship and coaching capabilities.
  • Customer Focus: Exceptional ability to build rapport, influence, and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including C-level executives.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic technical initiatives that align with business goals and drive customer success.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical and effective solutions to complex customer challenges.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. An MBA is a plus.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as needed to customer sites and company events (estimated 25-30%).
