We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our Grafana Cloud teams and focus on the future of Grafana data sources. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data observability landscape, impacting millions of users and contributing to a product that is central to how businesses monitor their critical systems.
As a Staff Product Designer, you will play a pivotal role in defining the user experience and interface for how users connect, configure, and visualize data from various sources within Grafana. You will work on challenging problems at the intersection of data, design, and user experience, collaborating with a passionate team to deliver innovative solutions that empower our users.
What you’ll do as a Staff Product Designer:
- Lead the end-to-end design process for critical data source features within Grafana, from research and ideation to prototyping, testing, and implementation support.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers to define product strategy, roadmaps, and requirements.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and identify user needs and pain points.
- Create wireframes, flow diagrams, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to effectively communicate design concepts and specifications.
- Advocate for user-centered design principles and best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Contribute to the evolution of our design system and ensure consistency across Grafana products.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
- Present and articulate design decisions and their rationale to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- 7+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in designing complex web applications, preferably in the observability, data visualization, or developer tools space.
- Proven track record of leading design projects from concept to launch, demonstrating significant impact on product success.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and interaction design patterns.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and analyzing data to inform design decisions.
- Familiarity with front-end development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design implementation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously and adapting to evolving priorities.
- A strong passion for open source and a desire to contribute to a vibrant community.
- Bonus: Experience designing for data sources, particularly within the Grafana ecosystem.
- Bonus: Experience working with distributed teams across different time zones.
