Director of Product – Maps

As a Director of Product on our Maps team, you will be responsible for defining and executing the product strategy for our core maps, driving innovation, and ensuring our maps meet the needs of our global customers. This role requires a leader who is passionate about geospatial data, has a strong technical background, and a proven track record of bringing successful products to market.

What you’ll do:

  • Define and execute the product vision and strategy for Mapbox Maps, aligning with overall company objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product managers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer feedback to identify opportunities and inform product decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, design, sales, and marketing teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Evangelize the Mapbox Maps product both internally and externally.
  • Manage the product roadmap, prioritize features, and define detailed product requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance, identifying areas for improvement and growth.
  • Drive product-led growth initiatives and ensure a seamless user experience.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the geospatial or mapping industry.
  • Proven track record of defining and launching successful software products at scale.
  • Deep understanding of geospatial data, mapping technologies (e.g., GIS, vector tiles, rendering engines), and location-based services.
  • Strong technical acumen, capable of engaging in technical discussions with engineering teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain top product talent.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with data-driven product development and A/B testing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Passion for maps and location technology.
