Senior Staff Engineer – Cloud Economics

About the Role

Reddit’s mission is to bring community and belonging to everyone in the world. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer in Cloud Economics, you will be part of a team whose mission is to make sure Reddit grows in a financially sustainable way. You’ll be responsible for providing technical leadership on projects related to optimizing cloud costs at scale. You will partner closely with engineering, finance, and leadership teams to ensure we are making the most impactful investments for our cloud infrastructure.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement cost optimization opportunities for Reddit’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead technical design and implementation of cloud cost visibility, allocation, and anomaly detection tools.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to promote cost-aware architectural patterns and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain internal tooling to monitor, analyze, and report on cloud spending.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on the team.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering complex technical projects.
  • Strong understanding of cloud cost models, billing, and optimization strategies.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Familiarity with financial data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
