Principal AI Safety Engineer for Autonomous Vehicles: Technical Lead (GPSSC)

As a Principal AI Safety Engineer for Autonomous Vehicles with the company, you will lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI safety solutions for our next-generation autonomous vehicles. This pivotal role requires deep expertise in AI/ML, functional safety, and autonomous systems, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the safe and reliable operation of AI-powered features in our vehicles.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the development and implementation of AI safety engineering principles and practices within the autonomous vehicle domain.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain AI safety requirements, guidelines, and best practices for autonomous systems.
  • Conduct thorough safety analyses of AI algorithms, models, and systems, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., AI/ML engineers, software developers, validation engineers) to integrate safety considerations throughout the AI development lifecycle.
  • Define and execute comprehensive testing and validation strategies for AI safety features, including simulation, real-world testing, and adversarial testing.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in AI safety research, autonomous vehicle technology, and relevant industry standards/regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of internal and external AI safety standards and policies.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior AI safety engineers.
  • Lead technical discussions and present complex AI safety concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.

What you’ll need

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, AI, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in AI/ML, autonomous systems, functional safety, or related areas, with a significant focus on safety-critical applications.
  • Proven track record of leading AI safety initiatives and successfully deploying safety-critical AI systems.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML algorithms, neural networks, and their safety implications.
  • Expertise in functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF, UL 4600) and their application to AI-driven systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
  • Experience with safety analysis techniques (e.g., FMEA, FTA, HAZOP) and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
