Upwork is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Sr Director, Corporate Development to lead our M&A and strategic investment initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing potential acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic investments that align with our long-term growth objectives.
What you’ll do
- Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of M&A transactions and strategic investments for Upwork.
- Conduct financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence efforts.
- Prepare and present strategic recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, legal, finance, HR) to ensure seamless integration of acquired companies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with investment banks, venture capital firms, and potential target companies.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to identify strategic opportunities.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of Upwork’s corporate development strategy.
What it takes to succeed
- 12+ years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital, with a focus on technology companies.
- Proven track record of leading and executing complex M&A transactions from start to finish.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- MBA preferred.
