We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Interoperability Engineer to join our dynamic team in Abbott’s Medical Devices division. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing robust interoperability solutions for our cutting-edge medical devices and healthcare systems. You will leverage your expertise in healthcare data exchange standards to ensure seamless data flow, enhance patient care, and drive innovation within the healthcare ecosystem.

What You’ll Do (Primary Responsibilities)
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions ensuring seamless interoperability between medical devices, healthcare systems, and third-party applications.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in healthcare data exchange standards (HL7 v2, FHIR, IHE profiles) and advocate for their effective implementation.
- Collaborate with product management, R&D, and regulatory teams to define interoperability requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Contribute to the architectural design and implementation of interoperability solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, design documents, and test plans.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and testing activities to ensure high-quality and reliable software.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in healthcare interoperability, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex interoperability issues, providing timely support to internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software development processes and tools to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development with a focus on healthcare interoperability.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare data exchange standards, including HL7 v2, FHIR, and IHE profiles.
- Experience with integration engines/platforms (e.g., Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, Orion Health).
- Solid understanding of networking protocols, security best practices, and database technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with medical device integration (MDI) standards (e.g., DICOM, SDC).
- Professional certifications in healthcare interoperability (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
