Data Scientist – Staff or Senior (Global)
The company is a fast-growing company exploring for the critical materials needed for the electric vehicle and renewable energy revolution. We are a team of mineral explorers, scientists, and software engineers who have come together to apply cutting-edge artificial intelligence to discovering new deposits of cobalt, nickel, copper, and lithium. We are technology-driven, but we are a metals company at our core. We have operations in Canada, Australia, Zambia and the US.
The Opportunity
As a Data Scientist (Staff or Senior) you will be responsible for developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining models that analyze a wide variety of geoscience data types (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, hyperspectral imagery, remote sensing, and drilling data). You will collaborate closely with exploration geoscientists, software engineers, ML engineers, and other data scientists to tackle challenging problems and build tools that help exploration teams discover the next generation of mineral deposits.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and deploy robust, production-grade machine learning models for geoscience applications across diverse data types.
- Collaborate with exploration geoscientists to understand problems and design data-driven solutions.
- Work with ML engineers and software engineers to integrate models into our core platform.
- Contribute to the full lifecycle of data science projects, from ideation to deployment and monitoring.
- Stay current with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and apply them to our challenges.
- Clearly communicate technical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What you’ll need
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Geophysics, Geology, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with 5+ years of industry experience, OR M.S. with 8+ years of industry experience, OR B.S. with 10+ years of industry experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy production-grade machine learning models for real-world applications.
- Strong programming skills in Python (including libraries like pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, pytorch/tensorflow).
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment.
Bonus points
- Familiarity with geoscience data and concepts is a plus, but not required.
- Experience with distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Dask) is a plus.
- Experience with geospatial data analysis and libraries (e.g., geopandas, rasterio) is a plus.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
