As a Distributed Systems Engineer, you will be a key contributor to building and improving systems that power Netflix’s data platform. We provide solutions that serve a wide range of needs from near real-time analytics to large scale batch processing. Your work will directly impact the ability of our engineering, product, and content teams to make data-driven decisions and deliver an exceptional member experience.
What you will do:
- Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed systems that handle vast amounts of data.
- Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to identify and solve complex technical challenges.
- Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the overall technical strategy of the data platform.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the reliability and availability of our systems.
What you bring to the team:
- 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages like Java, Scala, Go, or Python.
- Strong understanding of distributed system fundamentals, including consensus algorithms, distributed transactions, and fault tolerance.
- Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, or similar.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in production environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have equity, stock options, or performance-based bonuses.
