We are looking for a senior software engineer to join the Open Connect Control Plane team. The Open Connect Control Plane manages our global CDN deployment, directing member traffic to the closest Netflix content servers and optimizing overall network utilization. We run one of the largest CDNs in the world, and our systems directly influence how efficiently we deliver content to our members and how well our CDN scales to support new growth.
As a member of the team, you will be responsible for building, operating, and supporting highly-available, high-performance distributed systems in the cloud. You will lead technical direction, design, and implementation of significant portions of our control plane systems to support new features, improve availability, and optimize cost. Your contributions will directly impact our global CDN deployment, influencing how efficiently we deliver content to our members and how well our CDN scales to support new growth.
What we are looking for:
- 8+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Proficiency in Java (or similar JVM-based language like Scala/Kotlin), with a strong understanding of object-oriented design and common design patterns
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, DynamoDB)
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservice architectures
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling complex technical challenges
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
What makes you stand out:
- Experience with large-scale CDN deployments or network control planes
- Familiarity with network protocols (e.g., BGP, DNS) and traffic engineering concepts
- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers
- Contributions to open-source projects or relevant community involvement
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that directly impact the Netflix member experience. If you are passionate about building scalable, resilient, and performant distributed systems, we encourage you to apply!
