Our teams build the data platform, which includes data ingestion, processing, modeling, metadata, and discovery tools. We enable thousands of engineers, data scientists, and business users to leverage data to innovate and improve the Netflix experience for our members around the world.
The Opportunity
As a Data Engineer on our Data Platform team, you will contribute to building systems that enable thousands of engineers and data scientists to leverage data across Netflix. Your work will involve building and maintaining large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines, defining and implementing data models, and developing tools that empower data users. You will work closely with other engineers, data scientists, and product managers to understand their data needs and deliver solutions that are reliable, performant, and easy to use.
What you will do
- Build and maintain large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new data models.
- Develop data solutions that address various analytical and product use cases.
- Automate operational tasks.
- Collaborate with engineers and data scientists to understand their data needs and advocate for high quality and performant data products.
- Drive projects that improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality across the data platform.
- Build tools to empower teams to understand and leverage data effectively.
What you will need
- 5+ years of experience with data engineering in a large-scale data environment.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling, and ETL/ELT principles.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala).
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka, Hive, Presto, Druid, Iceberg).
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
