This position will support category management activities, including demand and spend analytics, market intelligence, supplier relationship management, sourcing, contracting, and performance management.
A Day in the Life
- Lead complex procurement activities for third-party data and analytics vendors. This involves developing and implementing category strategies for data sourcing, driving innovative solutions, and partnering with internal stakeholders to manage vendor relationships effectively.
- Analyze internal demand and spend, external market trends, and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for value creation.
- Collaborate with legal, risk, privacy, and cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance and mitigate risks associated with data sourcing and usage.
- Develop and manage effective relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Analytics teams, Product Managers, etc.) to understand their needs and align procurement strategies with business objectives.
- Support the implementation of procurement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency in sourcing data.
- Manage contract negotiations, including terms, pricing, and service level agreements (SLAs), to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Monitor supplier performance and manage issues, ensuring delivery of high-quality data and services.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the data procurement function, leveraging technology and process enhancements.
- Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at optimizing data management and utilization.
- Effectively manage change and influence others when implementing new processes and ideas.
- Coach and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Data Science, Analytics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, category management, or a related supply chain function, with a strong focus on data and analytics categories.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management, specifically within the data procurement space.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and cybersecurity best practices related to data sourcing is a plus.
- Experience working in a global or matrixed organization is a plus.
- Ability to drive change, innovate, and continuously improve processes.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of how data contributes to business outcomes.
