Open Connect is the content delivery network (CDN) that Netflix built to deliver 100% of its video and other content to its 270M+ members globally. We partner with over 16,000 unique ISPs in 190 countries to put Open Connect appliances as close to our members as possible.
Our goal is to deliver the best possible streaming experience to our members worldwide, reliably and efficiently. We operate at an unprecedented scale, handling petabytes of data and billions of requests per day.
The Open Connect Control Plane team is responsible for the intelligence that drives our CDN. We design, build, and operate the distributed systems that orchestrate content placement, serve member requests, manage network topology, and ensure the health and performance of our global infrastructure.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing resilient, fault-tolerant, and performant distributed systems for our control plane.
- Evolving our control plane architecture and services to manage the growing scale and complexity of Open Connect.
- Collaborating with other engineering teams (network, kernel, hardware, streaming, etc.) to optimize the end-to-end streaming experience.
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues across various layers of our stack, from applications to kernel and network.
- Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
- Participating in an on-call rotation to support our critical infrastructure.
What we’re looking for:
- Typically 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating high-scale distributed systems in a production environment.
- Expertise in one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Java, Go, Python) and experience with asynchronous programming models.
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Linux), networking concepts, and distributed systems fundamentals (e.g., consensus, consistency, replication).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with video streaming technologies or CDN infrastructure is a plus.
