Claims Examiner – Construction

This position will have a flexible work schedule from an office/home setting. The Claims Examiner role is a key position within a dynamic team setting and is responsible for the handling and resolution of construction defect and other complex liability claims from inception through settlement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interprets and applies policy and coverage to claims.
  • Handles claims under a reservation of rights and with proper notice letters.
  • Identifies third party contribution sources and coordinates with recovery department.
  • Effectively uses negotiation skills to bring claims to an amicable resolution.
  • Communicates effectively with claimants, policyholders, and brokers.
  • Investigates claims thoroughly and ensures that all claims handled are in good faith.
  • Maintains accuracy and timeliness of data entry and reserves.
  • Ensures appropriate payments are made in accordance with settlement agreements.
  • Travels as needed to conferences, mediations, and training sessions.
  • Maintains a high level of performance through quality driven results.
  • Participates in team meetings and provides recommendations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 or more years experience in the handling of construction defect/complex liability claims.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A strong knowledge of construction defect litigation, including multi-party litigation, contractual indemnity, tenders, and additional insured issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, with little supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Relevant adjuster licenses are required.
