KoBold Metals is a fast-growing mineral exploration company that uses AI to discover the next generation of critical mineral deposits. Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition by discovering new supplies of the critical minerals needed for electric vehicles and renewable energy. We are building a future-focused exploration company that combines AI and machine learning, deep geological expertise, and extensive on-the-ground exploration experience.
About the Role
As a Commercial & Scientific Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic decisions by providing rigorous techno-economic analyses for our diverse portfolio of mineral exploration projects. You will bridge the gap between our cutting-edge scientific discoveries and their commercial viability, working closely with our technical and leadership teams. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the global energy transition by accelerating the discovery of critical minerals.
What You Will Do
- Lead complex techno-economic analyses, including financial modeling, valuation, and scenario planning, to support strategic decision-making in mineral exploration and development.
- Assess and articulate the technical and economic risks and opportunities associated with various exploration projects, leveraging your understanding of geological, metallurgical, and market factors.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models for various project stages, from early-stage exploration to feasibility studies, incorporating diverse datasets and assumptions.
- Prepare and present compelling reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, translating complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams (geologists, geophysicists, data scientists) to integrate technical data and insights into commercial analyses.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, commodity markets, regulatory changes, and technological advancements relevant to the critical minerals sector.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our analytical tools, methodologies, and data infrastructure.
Qualifications We’re Looking For
- Master’s or Ph.D. in a scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Geology, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science) combined with an MBA or equivalent business experience. Alternatively, a Master’s or Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field with strong demonstrated technical aptitude.
- 5+ years of experience in a commercial or scientific analyst role within the mining, energy, or related heavy industry sectors. Experience in critical minerals is a plus.
- Proven expertise in financial modeling, valuation techniques (DCF, NPV, IRR), and risk analysis, preferably with experience in large-scale capital projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex technical and financial information.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Excel, financial modeling platforms) and data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL) is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of geological processes, mineral deposit types, and mining value chain is a significant advantage.
