Bend the Curve is seeking a full-time Communications Director & Digital Strategist to lead our narrative and communications strategy and implementation across multiple platforms and initiatives. As a key member of our growing team, you will play a critical role in shaping public perception, engaging target audiences, and advancing our mission to strengthen social justice and democracy in the United States.
The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic communications professional with a passion for social justice, democracy, and movement building. They will have a proven track record of developing and executing impactful communications strategies, a deep understanding of digital engagement, and the ability to translate complex issues into compelling narratives.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans that integrate digital, earned media, partner communications, and events to achieve organizational goals.
- Digital Strategy & Engagement: Manage and grow Bend the Curve’s digital presence, including the website, social media channels, and email communications. Implement innovative digital campaigns to reach and engage diverse audiences.
- Content Creation & Storytelling: Oversee the creation of compelling and persuasive content, including stories, videos, graphics, reports, and other communications materials, for various platforms and audiences.
- Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, producers, and influencers. Secure media placements and manage rapid response communications.
- Brand Management: Ensure consistent messaging and brand identity across all communications channels.
- Partner & Grantee Communications: Provide strategic communications support and guidance to Bend the Curve’s partners and grantees.
- Team & Agency Management: Manage external communications agencies, consultants, and potential future communications staff.
- Measurement & Evaluation: Track and analyze communications metrics to assess effectiveness and inform future strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in communications, digital strategy, or a related field, preferably within social justice, advocacy, or non-profit organizations.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful, data-driven communications strategies that have achieved measurable impact.
- Expertise in digital marketing tools and platforms, including SEO, SEM, social media platforms, email marketing software, and CRM systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Strong media relations skills and a demonstrated ability to secure earned media placements.
- Experience managing external agencies, consultants, or communications teams.
- Strategic thinker with a creative and results-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
- A deep commitment to social justice, democracy, and the mission of Bend the Curve.
- Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
- Experience working with movement leaders and diverse communities is a plus.
Salary Range: C$168,750 – C$202,500 per year
