If you are a claims professional looking for an opportunity to impact future generations, consider joining the Environmental Claims Complex Resolution Unit. As a Complex Claims Resolution Specialist, you will be a key contributor for the resolution of legacy claims. Your responsibilities will include, among other things, analyzing coverage, liability and damages associated with pollution, asbestos and other toxic tort claims involving long-tail exposures.
What you’ll do:
- Negotiates and finalizes settlements in complex environmental, asbestos, and toxic tort claims.
- Applies an advanced understanding of coverage, liability, and damage evaluation principles to unique fact patterns to achieve optimal financial results.
- Manages outside counsel and experts in an effective and cost-efficient manner.
- Drafts, reviews, and approves complex agreements involving multiple parties, including those with substantial settlement authority and/or multi-million dollar exposures.
- Engages in substantive negotiations with opposing counsel and other stakeholders regarding complex legal and factual issues.
- Prepares comprehensive reports and makes recommendations regarding case resolution and litigation strategies.
- Attends mediations and other settlement conferences as needed.
- Maintains thorough records and documentation of claims activities.
- Mentors and trains less experienced claims professionals.
- Effectively presents and communicates information to management, business partners, and customers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Law degree and/or advanced degree in environmental science or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years progressively more complex experience in resolving insurance claims and/or handling complex legal disputes. Experience managing environmental, asbestos, or toxic tort claims in a professional setting required.
- Strong litigation, mediation, and negotiation skills and experience.
- Proven ability to work effectively with outside counsel, experts, and consultants.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively draft and interpret complex legal documents.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance policies, coverage principles, and claims handling practices.
- Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced environment and manage a large inventory of claims.
- High degree of initiative, autonomy, and ability to work independently.
- Ability to travel as required.
