About the Role
The Linux Foundation (LF) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and strategic Director of Accounting & Finance to join our team. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the Foundation’s mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit accounting, financial reporting, and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements for non-profit organizations.
- Oversee the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors and ensuring compliance with audit findings.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment portfolios to optimize liquidity and returns.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making and provide insights into financial performance.
- Provide financial leadership and guidance to various departments and program managers.
- Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards, tax regulations, and non-profit compliance requirements, ensuring the Foundation’s adherence.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Assist with financial due diligence for potential mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position within a non-profit organization.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls, particularly within the non-profit sector.
- Proven experience with annual audits and interacting with external auditors.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Oracle).
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to the Foundation’s overall mission and objectives.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment.
- Preference for candidates with experience in a global organization or open-source environment.
