Our mission at Mercury is to help startups spend less time on banking and more time building. We’re hiring a Director of Data to lead our Data organization, reporting to our VP of Engineering.

What you’ll do

  • Set the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for Data at Mercury, encompassing data engineering, analytics, and data science disciplines.
  • Partner closely with leaders across the company in Product, Engineering, Risk, Marketing, and Sales to understand their data needs and enable them to make data-informed decisions.
  • Recruit, manage, and grow a team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Establish and maintain robust data governance policies, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of our data infrastructure, including data warehouses, ETL pipelines, and reporting tools.
  • Drive the implementation of advanced analytics, machine learning, and data product initiatives to unlock new business opportunities and improve user experience.
  • Represent the Data organization internally and externally, advocating for data-driven approaches and sharing our insights with the broader community.

You should

  • Have 10+ years of experience in data-related roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions, managing and scaling data teams.
  • Possess a strong technical background in data engineering, data warehousing, SQL, and programming languages like Python or Java.
  • Have experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink).
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of delivering impactful data solutions that drive business outcomes.
  • Be an excellent communicator, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Have a deep understanding of data governance, data privacy, and compliance best practices.
  • Experience in the fintech industry is a plus.
