electrical energy transmission engineer

Responsibilities

  • Conducting engineering design, review, technical support, and analysis to solve challenges associated with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission systems and/or other power system related electrical equipment and facilities.
  • Providing technical direction, mentorship and training to less experienced engineering staff and technical support staff.
  • Providing engineering expertise and advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating and integrating technical work within a project team, with other departments and/or external service providers.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Applying sound engineering practices and adhering to company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing and/or supporting field work, site assessment, design and construction support, and commissioning.
  • Supporting the development of technical standards and practices.
  • Supporting continuous improvement by identifying gaps and recommending solutions.

Job requirements

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree
Experience
  • 3 years to less than 5 years
Specific skills and experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligible for registration in British Columbia.
  • Electrical engineering design and analysis for electrical power systems, including transmission systems, substations, and other electrical equipment and facilities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to electrical power systems.
  • Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and applications (e.g., CAD, power system analysis software).
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems, SCADA, and telecommunications for power systems.
  • Experience with field work, site assessments, construction support, and commissioning.
  • Experience in providing technical direction, mentorship, and training to junior staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and/or review engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and identification of gaps/solutions.
