Tasks
- Design and develop electrical systems and components
- Develop specifications for the manufacture, construction, application, installation, maintenance or operation of electrical components, equipment and systems
- Supervise and inspect the installation and maintenance of electrical systems
- Investigate electrical failures or problems
- Prepare material and equipment specifications
- Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery and components and associated electronic systems
- Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical systems and equipment
- Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers
- Estimate costs and materials
- Prepare tenders and proposals
- Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for electrical and electronic systems and in construction and installation projects
- Conduct life cycle costing
- Write technical reports
- Investigate and analyze problems with electrical power distribution systems
