Engineering Manager – Adaptive Telemetry

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Adaptive Telemetry squad. Adaptive Telemetry focuses on smart sampling of metrics, traces, and logs. As an Engineering Manager on the Adaptive Telemetry squad, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers responsible for developing the next generation of our observability platform, focusing on intelligent data reduction and sampling.

You’ll report to a Director of Engineering and have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our product and culture.

As an Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and other engineering teams to define the roadmap, strategy, and execution for Adaptive Telemetry.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality, scalable, and reliable software that meets the needs of our customers.
  • Drive technical decision-making, promote best practices, and contribute to the overall architectural vision of our observability platform.
  • Manage team priorities, project timelines, and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery.
  • Actively participate in the hiring process, from sourcing to interviewing, to attract top talent.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment where everyone can thrive.

What you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in an engineering leadership role.
  • Strong technical background in distributed systems, backend development, and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
  • Experience with Go, Java, or other relevant backend languages.
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • Solid understanding of observability principles (metrics, traces, logs) and experience with related tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance technical leadership with people management, guiding engineers in their career growth while delivering on business objectives.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Familiarity with data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink) is a plus.
  • Experience with machine learning or statistical analysis applied to telemetry data is a plus.

We are an equal opportunity employer and committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. We value all people and honor everyone’s right to be different, to be respected, and to be valued for their unique contributions to our team. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles!

Working at a fast-growing, open source-driven company means that you will be a part of a team that is always growing and changing. We are an open and honest company and we are looking for individuals who are as excited about our mission as we are.

This is a remote position that can be hired in the USA. Our teams are distributed across the globe and we hire based on ability, not location. While we are a remote-first company, we have offices in a few locations (including London and New York) and we have some limited roles that are region-specific due to compliance, legal, and/or tax reasons.

Come and join us on our mission to make observability ubiquitous!
