We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who can contribute to building and maintaining a variety of projects across our products and platforms, including WordPress.com, WooCommerce, and Jetpack. Our systems serve millions daily, and we’re looking for someone to help us enhance their capabilities.
As an Experienced Software Engineer, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, owning projects from concept to deployment. You will collaborate with other teams (product, design, marketing, etc.) and engineers, improving code quality, development processes, and the overall user experience.
Our team members are experienced across a number of languages and frameworks, including JavaScript (React), PHP, Python, Go, and relational databases like MySQL. We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of them, but we do expect you to be passionate about learning and able to adapt quickly to new technologies.
What you’ll be doing
- Building and maintaining projects across the company’s products and platforms.
- Contributing to systems that serve millions daily and help enhance their capabilities.
- Operating with a high degree of autonomy, owning projects from concept to deployment.
- Collaborating with other teams (product, design, marketing, etc.) and engineers.
- Improving code quality, development processes, and the overall user experience.
- Mentoring junior engineers and participating in code reviews.
- Contributing to open-source projects.
- Practicing good engineering principles and best practices.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrable experience with modern full-stack development.
- Experience with various languages and frameworks, e.g., JavaScript (React), PHP, Python, Go.
- Experience with relational databases like MySQL.
- Experience operating production systems.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Curiosity and a drive to improve.
- A strong understanding of web technologies and architectures.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with distributed systems, large-scale data processing, or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience building WordPress (or similar CMS) themes/plugins.
- Experience working remotely.
- Passion for open source.

Salary for this position is between C$94.5k – C$229.5k. This is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on your experience and location. For compensation, we consider your location and experience with respect to our open salary formula. The salary range for this position is for a candidate in Canada. The salary will be adjusted to the market based on the location of the selected candidate.
