Health Safety and Environment Lead

Seeking a dynamic, passionate and experienced Health Safety and Environment Lead to join our team of explorers. You will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing our HSE strategy across various exploration projects in North America, ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance. This is a remote role based in the USA or Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and programs aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the identification and assessment of HSE risks, implementing effective controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct regular HSE audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring timely resolution of findings and corrective actions.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to project teams on HSE matters, fostering a strong safety culture and environmental awareness.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of HSE training programs, ensuring all personnel are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders on HSE matters, ensuring compliance and positive relationships.
  • Monitor and report on HSE performance, identifying trends and recommending continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage emergency response plans and protocols, ensuring readiness and effective coordination during incidents.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and learning in HSE practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in HSE leadership roles, preferably within the mining or exploration industry.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent professional certification highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of North American HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective HSE management systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required (approximately 25% travel).
