Specific skills
- Develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives related to Indigenous affairs
- Conduct research and analysis on issues affecting Indigenous communities
- Provide advice and recommendations to senior management on Indigenous affairs matters
- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, governments, and other stakeholders
- Represent the organization in meetings and negotiations with partners and stakeholders
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other communication materials
- Manage projects and initiatives from conception to completion
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives
- Participate in strategic planning and organizational development activities
- Supervise staff and manage budgets as required
Experience and expertise
- Experience working for a Métis Government, community, or organization in a related field.
- Experience in policy research, analysis, and development.
- Experience in strategic planning, program development, and implementation.
- Experience in project management including planning, monitoring, and financial management.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Experience working with senior leaders, including elected officials.
- Experience representing an organization or government in meetings with partners and stakeholders.
Skills and abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of Métis culture, history, and political landscape.
- Knowledge of Indigenous rights and issues in Canada.
- Ability to travel to various locations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal reference check.
