We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to define and execute the product strategy for Gusto Pro – our new offering for accountants, bookkeepers, and payroll bureaus. This role is a unique opportunity to build a new business from the ground up, with the full backing of Gusto’s existing product, engineering, sales, and marketing teams.
What you’ll do
- Define and drive the product strategy, roadmap, and requirements for Gusto Pro, working closely with engineering, design, and business teams.
- Deeply understand the needs of accounting professionals, their workflows, and their challenges in serving small businesses, through market research, customer interviews, and data analysis.
- Translate user and business needs into clear, concise product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Lead the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and post-launch optimization, ensuring a high-quality product that meets market needs.
- Collaborate with engineering and design to make critical technical and user experience decisions, balancing innovation with practicality.
- Develop a deep understanding of the competitive landscape and identify opportunities for differentiation and market leadership.
- Communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, including executives, sales, and customers.
- Partner with marketing and sales to develop go-to-market strategies and ensure successful product launches and adoption.
- Mentor and coach other product managers, sharing best practices and fostering a culture of product excellence.
What we’re looking for
- 8+ years of product management experience, with a proven track record of launching successful B2B SaaS products.
- Experience in a Principal-level product role, demonstrating leadership and strategic impact.
- Domain expertise in payroll, HR, benefits, or accounting software is highly preferred.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to define a clear product vision and execute on it.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
- A strong bias for action, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Experience with agile development methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Business); MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
