Research Scientist 5/6 – AI for Member Systems

We are seeking an outstanding Research Scientist to join our AI for Member Systems team. As a Research Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the state of the art in AI and applying it to complex, high-impact problems related to our member experience, spanning member acquisition, engagement, and retention. You will be instrumental in developing novel AI algorithms and models, prototyping and validating your research, and ultimately driving the productionization of these solutions to deliver significant business impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct independent research to advance the state of the art in AI for complex member-facing problems, e.g., using LLMs for understanding the evolving member journey and improving member acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities, develop a research agenda, and align on impact.
  • Develop novel algorithms and models that push the boundaries of current capabilities.
  • Prototype, validate, and productionize your research, ensuring it’s robust and scalable.
  • Publish your research in top-tier conferences and journals and represent the company’s scientific endeavors externally.
  • Mentor junior researchers and engineers, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and collaboration.

Who you are:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience (for a Staff Scientist equivalent role) or 12+ years of industry experience (for a Principal Scientist equivalent role) applying AI/ML to real-world problems.
  • A strong publication record in top-tier AI/ML conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, WWW, SIGIR, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP).
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: large language models (LLMs), causal inference, recommender systems, reinforcement learning, deep learning, graph neural networks, sequential decision making, time series analysis.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to formulate research problems, design experiments, analyze results, and drive projects to completion independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into practical, high-impact solutions.
