Senior Accounting Manager – Revenue

The Accounting Team at Khan Academy is a small, dedicated group responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the organization. What you’ll do

  • Lead all aspects of the revenue cycle for the organization, including invoicing, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and deferred revenue.
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team of accounting professionals, fostering their growth and development.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies related to revenue recognition (ASC 606), ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate closely with the Development, Sales, and Legal teams to review contracts, identify key revenue terms, and ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the revenue cycle to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare detailed revenue reports, analyses, and forecasts for management and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes for revenue-related accounts, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Act as a key liaison with external auditors during the annual audit, providing necessary documentation and explanations for revenue-related areas.
  • Stay current with emerging accounting standards and regulatory requirements, particularly those impacting revenue recognition.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA license highly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role, specifically focusing on revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Proven expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition standards and their practical application.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate a high-performing team.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or education technology company is a plus.
