Our growing team is looking for a Senior Director, Engineering Operations & Platform to own the definition and execution of our platform and engineering operations strategy.
This role is critical for scaling our engineering organization and ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our core services. You will lead a diverse set of teams including Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Developer Productivity, driving innovation and operational excellence across the entire software development lifecycle.
What you’ll do:
- Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Alma’s core platform and engineering operations, ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers and engineering managers across Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, and Developer Productivity.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure, tools, and services that empower engineering teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently.
- Drive improvements in engineering efficiency, developer experience, and operational excellence through automation, standardized practices, and robust monitoring.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to understand needs, prioritize initiatives, and ensure seamless integration of platform services.
- Manage budget, resources, and vendor relationships related to platform and infrastructure.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Platform and Engineering Operations teams and across the broader engineering organization.
- Represent the Platform and Engineering Operations strategy and roadmap to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
What you bring:
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing multiple teams (managers and individual contributors) within Platform Engineering, SRE, or Developer Productivity.
- Proven track record of defining and executing platform and engineering operations strategies that have significantly impacted engineering productivity, system reliability, and scalability.
- Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), distributed systems, microservices architecture, and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in building and operating large-scale, high-availability systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Experience managing budgets, resources, and vendor relationships effectively.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
