The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Senior Economist to join our dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical research at the intersection of economics and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the long-term societal impacts of transformative AI.

What you will be doing:

  • Conducting original research on the economic effects of transformative AI.
  • Working independently and collaboratively on projects related to the macro and microeconomic impacts of AI.
  • Developing and maintaining a research agenda, potentially including specific focus areas such as labor markets, economic growth, inequality, or international trade.
  • Presenting research findings at academic conferences, workshops, and policy forums.
  • Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals, working paper series, and policy reports.
  • Collaborating with other researchers within the organization and external experts to advance our understanding of AI’s economic implications.
  • Mentoring junior researchers and contributing to a collegial research environment.
  • Engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society to communicate research findings and inform policy discussions.

Who we are looking for:

  • PhD in Economics or a related field (e.g., public policy, computer science with an economics focus).
  • 5+ years of post-PhD research experience in economics.
  • Proven track record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Expertise in macroeconomics, labor economics, growth theory, international economics, or related fields.
  • Experience with advanced quantitative methods (e.g., econometrics, computational economics, causal inference).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, for academic and policy audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in the long-term future of humanity and the implications of advanced AI.
  • Ability to engage constructively with a diverse range of perspectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote setting across different time zones.

Salary & Benefits:

C$182,000 – C$247,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
