Software Engineer Accounts

Vercel is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Accounts team to build the core building blocks of our platform, enabling users to effortlessly manage their organizations, accounts, and teams at scale.

About the Role

The Accounts team is responsible for the foundational services that power user authentication, authorization, and organization management. Our work is critical to every Vercel user, from individual developers to large enterprises, ensuring a seamless and secure experience across our platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain critical backend services and APIs for user accounts, teams, and organizations.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define and implement new features and improvements.
  • Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our account infrastructure.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support our services in production.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy for the Accounts team.
  • Advocate for best practices in software development, including testing, code reviews, and documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on backend systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Go or a similar language (e.g., Rust, Java, C++).
  • Experience designing and building highly scalable, reliable, and secure microservices.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, databases (SQL and NoSQL), and API design principles (REST, gRPC).
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or similar containerization technologies.
  • A track record of leading complex technical projects from inception to production.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with user identity, authentication, and authorization systems.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures.
  • Open source contributions or maintainer experience.
