The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an experienced Software Engineer III to join our Fundraising Tech team to help us deliver critical fundraising experiences. As a member of our team, you’ll be responsible for building and maintaining the software and systems that power our global fundraising efforts. What you’ll do:

  • Build and maintain software and systems that power our global fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver new features and improvements.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code in a CI/CD environment.
  • Participate in code reviews and help maintain a high standard of quality.
  • Contribute to the team’s on-call rotation to ensure the reliability and availability of our systems.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

Skills and experience that you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in web technologies.
  • Proficiency in PHP, Python, or a similar backend language.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience working with frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js) and modern JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a distributed team environment.
  • A passion for the Wikimedia mission and a commitment to open knowledge.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with high-traffic, large-scale web applications.
  • Familiarity with MediaWiki or other open-source projects.
  • Experience with payment processing or fundraising systems.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Familiarity with internationalization and localization best practices.

U.S. Salary Range:

The pay range for this position is $111,702 – $177,639. This is the starting base salary for candidates located in the US. The compensation range may vary depending on your location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
