Our AI Team
Our AI team is at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence into all aspects of the Khan Academy platform. We are a small but mighty team of engineers, researchers, and product managers who are dedicated to exploring new frontiers in personalized education. We work on a wide range of projects, from developing intelligent tutoring systems to creating generative AI tools that empower both students and teachers.
You’ll Spend Your Time
- Building cutting-edge AI features from inception to launch, working across the full stack.
- Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and researchers to define, prototype, and refine AI-powered learning experiences.
- Developing, evaluating, and deploying LLM-based solutions, and creating infrastructure and tooling to support future AI development.
- Conducting prompt engineering and fine-tuning of models to optimize performance and safety.
- Staying current with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning, and applying them to develop innovative solutions.
- Mentoring other engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Who We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion focused on AI/ML applications.
- Proven track record of shipping complex AI features to production.
- Strong background in building and deploying LLM-based applications, including experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
- Deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their practical application.
- Proficiency in Python and relevant ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- A passion for education and a commitment to Khan Academy’s mission.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
