We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for our Adaptive Telemetry team, a foundational service within Grafana Cloud. This team is focused on building intelligent systems that understand telemetry data, providing insights and optimizations for our users. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable backend services that power our telemetry platform.

The Adaptive Telemetry team is at the forefront of innovation, working on challenging problems related to data ingestion, processing, and analysis at scale. What you’ll do:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services.
- Contribute to the architecture and technical direction of the Adaptive Telemetry platform.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams.
- Champion best practices in software development, including testing, code reviews, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotation as part of the team.
What you’ll bring:
- 8+ years of experience in backend software development, with a focus on distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Go, with experience in other languages like Python or Java a plus.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Prometheus, Loki, or similar.
- Experience with various databases (SQL and NoSQL) and message queues (Kafka, NATS, etc.).
- Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and observable services.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, etc.).
- A proactive and innovative mindset, with a passion for learning and continuous improvement.
