Staff Product Designer – Grafana Datasources

About the Role

Grafana Labs is the company behind Grafana, the leading open source dashboarding and visualization tool. We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our team, focusing on Grafana Datasources. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the user experience of how users connect, query, and visualize their data across various data sources within the Grafana ecosystem.

What you’ll do as a Staff Product Designer at Grafana Labs:

  • Drive and lead the end-to-end design process from discovery through delivery, working closely with product managers, engineers, and other designers.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and other design validation activities to ensure product designs meet user needs and business objectives.
  • Define and articulate the user experience, information architecture, and user interface for complex features and new products.
  • Create and maintain design specifications, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure design implementation matches design specifications and intent.
  • Present and defend design decisions to cross-functional teams and stakeholders, incorporating feedback iteratively.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other designers, contributing to a culture of design excellence and continuous learning.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our design system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across products.

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • Proven experience as a Product Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful product launches and problem-solving skills, preferably in a SaaS or developer tools environment.
  • Expertise in user-centered design methodologies, including user research, usability testing, information architecture, and interaction design.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design implementation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience with data visualization, observability, or monitoring tools is a plus.
  • A passion for open source and community-driven products.
